Ashok Leyland testing its Bharat Stage VI compliance heavy duty trucks on Bangalore-Chennai national highway were spotted.
India shifted from BS III to BS IV in 2018 and the government made it mandatory for the OEMs to get into BS VI regime by April 2020.
Now the vehicle makers are in the phase of preparing themselves to meet BS VI standards.
At this stage the heavy duty trucks of Ashok Leyland reportedly started testing on roads. The vehicle range on testing includes Haulage, Tippers, Tractors and Full body trucks. One thing observed here is that they’re maintaining same Captain series cabin for all series.
First Indian OEM
Already Ashok Leyland claimed it as the first Indian OEM to meet the BS-VI emission norms across the full range of heavy duty trucks (GVW of 16.2T and above).

On August 29, 2019, Dr. N Saravanan, Chief Technology Officer, Ashok Leyland, received the certificates, confirming compliance to BS-VI emission standard, from Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI).
ARAI is India’s leading automotive R&D organization set up by the automotive industry with the Indian government. It is an autonomous body affiliated to the Ministry of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises, offering comprehensive certification and homologation services for all kinds of vehicles.
It is expected that compliance in the LCV and ICV range will be completed soon by Ashok Leyland and offer a comprehensive range from 70 hp to 360 hp in BS VI application.
